Year 11 maths homework schedule

Week A – SPARX set, sparxmaths.com

Week B – Half paper set, https://www.hannahkettlemaths.co.uk/half-past-papers

Both types of Homework are set on Thursday, and due Thursday.

A reminder for Sparx homework

• Sparx remembers the questions that students don’t get correct the first time, and will consolidate those topics and question types in subsequent homeworks

• Please encourage students to watch through the videos, and seek help from their teacher where needed before the deadline of Thursday

How to complete your Hannah Kettle Paper

1. Complete the paper to the best of your ability first. Exam conditions are best practice (no phones!)

2. Follow the QR code to check through the answers, listening to the walkthroughs for those you didn’t answer/ answered incorrectly (this is the most important bit!)

3. Highlight/circle the topic and Sparx codes for the questions where you didn’t get full marks

4. To improve on these topics, you can type the topic codes into Sparx, or type the topic names into some of the revision websites listed below

Lesson 6

Lesson 6 runs every Monday 3-4pm and provides our Year 11 students the opportunity to consolidate their learning further and apply their understanding to exam questions, with support from their teacher. We expect all Year 11 students to regularly attend this.

Independent Revision

• Sparx – Use codes highlighted from homework papers. After mocks, focus on those highlighted in your QLA (Question Level Analysis)

• Maths Genie: https://www.mathsgenie.co.uk/ - Includes all past papers, video solutions and mark schemes. It also has past exam questions organised by topic and grade.

• MME www.mmerevise.co.uk (particularly useful for Higher Tier)

• OnMaths: onmaths.com

Question Level Analysis (QLA)

All Year 11 students will receive their own personalised QLA for each of their completed mock papers in November, and again in February. The QLA appears as below, listing each question, topic and corresponding Sparx code. Each question will be highlighted red, amber or green, which represents the following:

Red – zero marks were awarded for that question

Amber – some marks were awarded for that question

Green – all marks were awarded for that question

It is vital that students use their QLAs to prioritise revising the topics highlighted in red and amber, ensuring that they are filling the gaps in their understanding before the next mock or exam.

In summary, all year 11 students must be achieving 100% completion on their Sparx homework once a fortnight, as well as fully completing and marking their Hannah Kettle papers on the alternate weeks. Additionally, Year 11 students should be attending lesson 6 on a weekly basis, and committing themselves to weekly independent revision.
